Sikkim lotteries worth 30 lakh confiscated

Palakkad:The Income tax department confiscated Sikkim lotteries worth RS 30 lakh which were brought to Kerala without remitting the advance tax amount. Tickets of Sikkim Super Deluxe and Super classic tickets were seized by Sunday evening which were printed at press in Sivakasi. The seized lotteries were confiscated when the lottery agency, Megha distributors failed to furnish reason for not confiscating the same by Tuesday evening. An advance tax of Rs 7 lakh must be paid prior to one month for each lucky draw of Sikkim super lotteries. But from August 23, the prize money of Sikkim super deluxe and classic were raised from Rs 20 lakh to Rs 50 lakh and the price of ticket was also raised from Rs 10 to 20.

As per Kerala Tax on Paper Lotteries Act, ticket which raised its prize money during festivals season would be included in bumper draw section . When the prize money increases, the lottery agency has to take back the advance tax paid earlier and had to remit the tax as per new rate. Though the matter was informed to Megha distributors they failed to furnish needed documents. In its reply they said that the seized lotteries not include in the bumper section.
