Thiruvananthapuram: It is alleged that noted starts in Malayalam film industry not attend the state government function honouring actor Kamal Hassan. Kamal was honoured at the Onam week celebrations organized by the Department of Tourism , on his completing 50 years in cinema. Earlier AMMA has also decided to boycott the Kerala Tourism department's function to honour Kamal .
AMMA president and actor Innocent explained: 'We have nothing against honouring Kamal Haasan. However, we feel there are other artists in Malayalam cinema who have completed 50 years, and are worthy to be recognized by the state government. Why should an actor from outside the state be felicitated for such an honour?'
AMMA will not be part of the event; however, individual members are free to participate, he said . After the function on August 22, many newspapers in Tamil Nadu reported news that Malayalam actors are protesting against honouring Kamal Hassan and stated that the actors had asked whether the Tamil Nadu government would be ready to felicitate actors from Malayalam. There are year long co-operation between both Malayalam and Tamil Films without any barriers of languages and some actors fear that such row will create rift and will eventually affect both industries.
