AIKS flays rubber import tariff cut

Kozhikode : Expressing strong resentment over the drastic reduction in the rubber import tariff, the pro-CPI, All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) in Kerala today said it would observe August 27 as a protest day throughout the State against the ''anti-farmer'' policy of the Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre. Speaking to newspersons here, AIKS State General Secretary Sathyan Mokeri said cut in the rubber import tariff to 7.5 per cent from 20 per cent would render a big blow to the local farming community already hit hard due to various problems.

Natural rubber price, which had already declined by more than Rs 15 a kg since the government decision, would further go down with the arrival of imported stuff, he said.
