    Rubber import tariff: KCJ to submit memo to PM, Sonia

    Kozhikode : The Kerala Congress (Jacob) would memoranda to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress Chairperson Sonia Gandhi seeking withdrawal of the proposal to reduce rubber import tariff from 20 per cent to 7.5 per cent. Talking to newspersons here today, KCJ Chairman Johy Nellor said the rubber price had come down by Rs 30 a kg since the announcement of the proposal, which would only help the so-called rubber lobby in the country.

    He said about 10 lakh rubber farmers, already reeling under spiralling prices of essential commodities, would be hit hard if the government implemented the proposal.

    The memoranda seeking immediate intervention of Dr Singh and Ms Gandhi on the issue would be signed by more than one lakh rubber farmers in the state.
