Thiruvananthapuram : More than 400 delegates from 20 countires will participate in the three-day international conference on ''Global Warming, Climate Change, Sustainable Development and Secular Spirituality'' at the Santhigiri Ashramam from Septemner 9 to 11.
In a press release here today, Santhigiri Ashram general Secretary Swami Chaithanya Jnana Tapaswi said 1996 Nobel Peace Laureate and East Timor President Jose Ramos Manuel-Horta would inaugurate the conference, to be organised by Santhigiri Researach Foundation (SRF) in association with UNESCO, American Centre and the Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), New Delhi.
The conference, to be organised, as part of the ''Parnasala Dedication Celebrations'' at the Ashramam, would underscore the vital role that could be played by spirituality in promoting a life vision and life style compatible with both nature and development, he pointed out.
It would also facilitate administrators, policy makers, scientists, social scientists and activists to come together and devise action programmes and policies to promote a sustainable way of life and development pattern, he added.
The main objectives of the conference would be to create a proper awareness among various segments of society on the frightening consequences of global warming and climate change on environment and human life.
