Kanyakumari: The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) is in a fix as the parents of a CRPF trainee, S Sunil Kumar, who died during training in Allahabad, refused to accept the body, stating it was not the body, of their son.
Nineteen-year-old Sunil Kumar was selected along with his elder brother Kabilan at a CRPF recruitment camp held on March 10 and sent to Allahabad for training. His brother was sent to Kerala.
Hailing from Keezhmuttan village near Paingulam in Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu, Sunil Kumar had informed his family members that he would return home after completion of the training on August 24.
On the final day of training on August 23, he collapsed while completing a 16 km run and was rushed to a hospital in Allahabad.
As the family members were waiting for his arrival, a friend of Sunil Kumar informed the family that the latter was admitted to hospital. The family did not receive any information from the CRPF.
To their shock and dismay, the CRPF called up the family members on August 28, five days after the incident, and informed that Sunil Kumar had died and they could take the body at the Thiruvananthapuram airport.
