    Record premium growth for LIC Division

    Thiruvananthapuram : The Life Insurance Corporation of India's (LIC) Thiruvananthapuram Division has collected Rs 300 crore as premium during the first five months of this financial year compared to Rs 152 crore in the same period last year. Addressing a press conference here, Senior Divisional Manager Saji Paul said the Division sold 408,937 policies and collected Total First Premium of Rs 493 crore during 2009-2010.

    The LIC, celebrating its 54th anniversary today, conducted an eye camp, quiz competition for college students and employees of various institutions, It also distributed water tanks to selected schools as part of its Insurance Week Celebrations.

    The Thiruvananthapuram Division has covered 146,506 lives under Social Security Schemes during 2009-10.

    Another report from Kottayam said District Collector Mini Antony inaugurated the celebrations in the Kottayam Division today. Talking to newspersons here, Senior Divisional Manager Doraiswamy said the company became the largest life insurer in the world and the largest financial institution in India. LIC serves over 28 crore customers through its network of 2,048 branch offices, over 1000 satellite offices, more than one lakh employees and over 14 lakh agents.

    Kottayam Division was showing a growth rate of 135 per cent, he said.

    The division stands ''number one'' in the country in the sale of health insurance policies in the current year, he claimed.

    LIC is launching a new unit linked pension plan called ''Pension Plus'' for people in the age group 18 years to 75 years tomorrow.

    It offers market linked returns and carries a guarantee on the minimum rate of return, he said.
