Kochi: Union minister of state for agriculture K V Thomas said that the centre has extended permission to export 10,000 tones of coconut oil through 13 ports in the country. The Minister made it clear that the permission is being given for branded packets of 5 kg and with such move higher price for coconuts can be sustained.
He was speaking after inaugurating the celebrations on the World Coconut day at Kera Bhavan, Kochi. He said for encouraging coconut farming the Coconut Development Board will launch more projects. As part of the programme, a special project is being set up centering the school in association with ICAR. After giving seed coconuts to schools and producing saplings, the board will take it back. The project aims to create 7 lakh saplings of high quality. This project also aims to attract school students to farming,
