    Reihana Khazi seeks support for her fight to rights

    Kozhikode: Cultural activists have asked all the believers in democracy to back Reihana Kazi, in her fight to uphold her right to wear the dress of her liking. Reihana who was in the news a few weeks ago when she moved the Kerala High Court seeking police protection in the wake of threats to her life, made a public appeal here on Friday for support in her fight to protect her rights. Writers C.S. Chandrika, Khadeeja Mumtaz and N.P. Hafiz Mohammed, who accompanied Reihana, said the letters that she received , from various quarters including the one that threatened to kill her and her family must be taken very seriously.

    The 22-year-old aeronautical engineer had alleged harassment from some of her relatives who wanted her to wear purdah. Soon the protests lead way to death threats and she received letters from various quarters including the one that threatened to kill her and her family

    He said she had not committed any crime and she is a devoted Muslim. Even the police discouraged her when she approached them for protection. `I had no other alternative but to approach the court, she said. Her mother Suhra Rahman offered her full support. The court has extended the police protection for two more months.
