Thrissur: Noted educationist and founder director of the Prajyoti Niketan College at nearby Pudukad, Father Harshan
Pazhayattil, today said the Principal of the Newman College, Thodupuzha cannot be absolved of the responsibility of the offence committed by Prof T J Joseph, who prepared a question paper which allegedly hurt the religious sentiments of the muslim community. The principals of the colleges affiliated to the Universities were responsible for the activities of the staff under the principle
of 'Vicarious Liability' of the Civil Law, Father Pazhayattil, perhaps, the only doctorate holder in India in the Holistic Approach in Medicine, Education and Social Change, told reporters here.
Pazhayttil, who is also the manager of the College at Pudukad said that if the teaching and non-teaching staff acted with 'ulterior
motives', the principal cannot not be responsible.
The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) team visited his college onSept 13 and 14 and appreciated the activities there. The team has requested the management to apply for Autonomous University status, he said adding, the college wanted it to be an Independnt University. The Banares Hindu University and the Aligarh Muslim University are
the only two Independent Universities in country, he said. Pti
