Chekannur case: Verdict on September 29
Kochi: The CBI special court will pronounce the verdict of Chekannur Moulavi murder case on September 29. The hearing of both sides were completed before Judge S Vijayakumar on Wednesday. According to the CBI, the Moulavi was taken away by a gang of six persons in a jeep, killed and buried in a deserted place. The CBI had taken over the investigation of the case in 1997 as per HC order and in 2005 they arrested ten persons in connection with the case. Chekannur Moulavi, a progressive Islamic cleric, disappeared under mysterious circumstances in 1993. The CBI told the court that Moulavi was murdered due to religious enmity and his controversial teachings on Islam also irked many.
