Hearing completed on Varghese murder, verdict on October 27
Kochi: The special CBI court hearing the Naxalite Varghese custodial murder case will pronounce its verdict on October 27.
The court directed second accused former IG Lakshmana and third accused DGP Vijayan to present before the court on the same day. The prime accused in the case constable Ramachandran Nair, who confessed to shooting Varghese to death under pressure from his superiors and who was the first accused, died four years back. Police claimed that Varghese was killed during an encounter with police in 1970 at Thirunelli forest in Wayanad. But CBI alleged that Kerala police fooled people as Varghese was not killed in an encounter.The hearing on both sides was completed on Tuesday. Defense counsel argued that there was no clear cut evidence that Varghese was shot to death and that he was not killed in an encounter with the police.
