Thiruvananthapuram: The state government is mulling plan to make 6 year as the admission age to class one as part of implementing central education rule. At present five year is the age of admission to class one. If the state implements the same in single phase, next year there would not be any student in the first standard divisions in schools.
For solving the same the government is panning to launch pre-primary classes in government, aided LP schools. The kids with five years of age can be admitted at pre-primary and in the next year in class one. As per central rule, the kids must be admitted to class one at the age of 6. In Kerala the kids are being admitted at LKG at the age of 3 and half years and in first standard on five years. In national level and in developed countries the kids are being admitted at 6 years of age. Education department is also of the opinion that as per psychological theories, 6 years of age is the prompt time to admit in first standared.
The government will soon appoint a higher level committee to conduct study on the same. The final decision would be taken on the basis of this report. If the system is implemented in next year, the teachers who teach in the first standared have to teach in pre-priamry too. In the future period a parallel system must be implemented for the same.
