Kasargod: Union minister of state for agriclture,Prof K V Thomas, said that the Centre was planning to come out with a special relief package to help the arecanut farmers in consultation with the state government. Speaking on mediapersons on the sideline of an international conference on coconut being here yesterday,
Thomas said that the government had appointed committees to study the after effects of endosulfan , but had not suggested
that the undiagnoised diseases were actually caused by the aerial spraying of endosulfan at the plantation corporation.

Earlier, inaugurating the conference, Thomas exhorted farmers and agricultural scientists to address the problems
    faced in the coconut sector.

He also expressed the hope that the conference would deliberate on the various issues in the coconut sector and
come out with solutions, which will be of great use for the agriculturalists.

Among those spoke included S Ayyappan, Director General, Indian Council of Agriculture Research (ICAR), New Delhi.

Nearly 300 delegates from across the country are attending the conference organised by the Central Plantation Corporation
