Kochi: Young fast bowler Sunil Sam from Kerala has been included in the Tamil Nadu Ranji Trophy squad that will play the elite division league matches this season. The Tamil Nadu team, comprising Dinesh Karthik, Badarinath, Lakshmipathi Balaji, Ravichandran Aswin and Abhinav Mukund, is one among the best team in India. Sunil, who treats this entry a birthday gift, says that he is very much fortunate to get an entry into the team. Sunil is a Visual Communication graduate student at the Coimbatore Nehru Arts and Science College.

Sunil, who hails from Kulathoopuzha, Kollam, is a trainee at the MRF Pace Foundation and was also the first reserve of Chennai under-22 team last year. He has also participated in net sessions for the Indian Premier League along with Chennai Super Kings. Association Secretary T C Mathew congratulated Sunil for finding a place in the Ranji squad. Sunil is the son of Kulathoopuzha Sam Nagar Samkutty and Ponnamma. He began his training under Jose in Punaloor cricket club. After his studies at Anjal St Jones College he went to Coimbatore aiming to sharpen his cricket skills. Though he got a place in the under 19 Kerala team, he went to Tamil Nadu seeking more opportunities. There he played for Ramakrishna Mills team and India Cements.
He became a good pace bowler under the training by Dennis Lilly and Senthil Nathan in MRF Foundation.
His entry into the team was through his five wicket performance in the Buchibabu Invitational Tournament in August.
