Kottayam : Catholicos designate Paulose Mar Milithios will be enthroned as Catholicos and Malankara Metropolitan of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church at Parumala Seminary on November 1.
At a news conference here today, Synod Secretary of the Church, Dr Mathews Mar Severios said that Catholicos Baselios Marthoma Didymus I would abdicate office on October 31 following old age and bad health.
The consecration ceremony would be held from 0630 hrs to 1100 hrs at Parumala. Abdicating Catholicos would be main celebrant at the consecration ceremony.
Catholicos Baselios Marthoma Didymus I, Supreme Head of the Church, had informed the Synod on the occasion of his 'Navathy' (90th birthday) celebration the other day that he was relinquishing office.
An emergency meeting of the Synod held at Devalokam, the church headquarters here today, decided to conduct the consecration ceremony of the new Catholicos on November 1.
