Kottayam: Giving new traces of hopes to the rubber planters in the state, the price of rubber reached new highs on Friday. Along with rubber, the price of cash corps like coconut, cardamom and pepper are also moving up fast.
The price of rubber reached Rs 200 per kg which is the highest ever price of rubber. According to rubber board, the RSS-4 item rubber was sold for Rs 200 per kg on Friday. This price is higher than the price in international market. The decline in the production of natural rubber due to heavy rain paved way for price rise.
The price of one kg coconut oil rose to Rs 75.50. Previous week the price stood at Rs 70 per kg. The price of pepper crossed Rs 200 per kg. Te decline in production is the reason behind the rise in price. The price of cardamom is also moving steadily up in the last three months as on Friday one kg was sold for Rs 1,026.
