Thiruvananthapuram: Though the office bearers of LSGs are holding top posts, when it comes to their pay, they get a meager sum. They do not get the salary of class four employees in government services. The mayor and district panchayat president, who hold top posts, get Rs 5900 as monthly salary. For district panchayat member the salary is Rs 2400 and corporation counsellors get Rs 2100.
The situation of village panchayat is pitiable as the president gets only Rs 4600 and members Rs 1500. One thing to note here is that the president's driver gets Rs 7000 as per daily wages. In municipality, chairman gets Rs 5300 and member Rs 1800.
Recently the salary of MPs were hiked from Rs 16,000 to Rs 50,000 and the amount would touch Rs 1 lakh when other allowances are added. MLAs get a salary of Rs 10,000 and allowance of Rs 10,000. The salaries of LSG officials were reformed in 2008. Only a hike of Rs 500 was given.
