Vavad accident: SI suspended

Kozhikode: Kunthamangalam SI Ganesh Kumar has been suspended in connection with the death of two youth who were killed on Sunday near the Kozhikode-Wayanad national highway when they were knocked down by a car travelled by an SI and his group. Central zone IG Muhammad Yaseen issued the order based on a report by the rural SP Neeraj Kumar Gupta who stated that the SI caused the accident. Yaseen also said that further probe would be done by crime detachment assistant commissioner Muhammad Kabir. Rural SP's report state that the SI drove the car. Whether he was drunk or not can be said only after a detailed probe.

The deceased in the accident were Baiju, 28, son of Prabhakaran Purakettil and Muhammad, 26, an auto driver from Alappura.
The mishap occurred when the police vehicle in which Kunthamangalam SI, Ganesh Kumar and some cops were traveling, lost control and knocked down Baiju and Muhammad. Witness statements inform that the jeep driver was under the influence of alcohol. The angry local residents protested by laying siege on the Kozhikode - Wayanad national highway alleging that the SI, who was drunk, drove the car.

A bottle of alcohol was also found inside the car. Koduvalli CI Bijuraj said there were eight persons in the car and among them except the SI, all others escaped. The SI was taken into custody by the Koduvally police at that time.
