Kottayam: Home and Tourism minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has said that the government would spend
Rs 25 crore for modernising fire and rescue services. The amount was allotted by the Central Finance Commission to the State Planning Board, Balakrishnan said after
commissioning the fourth divisional office of Fire and Rescue Services here.
He said every year Rs 10 crore was received from the disaster management would be utilised for modernisation of
fire force. The government had so far spent Rs 35 crore for the purpose.
Eight new fire stations would be started before the current financial year. During the last four years the government had
sanctioned 10 fire stations. The government has given sanction for purchasing Rs six crore sky lift for rescue operations in multi-storied buildings, he said. PTI
