Kozhikode: The Kerala government is seriously considering to ban highly toxic pesticides in the state, Agriculture Minister Mullakkara Ratnakaran today said.
Speaking to newspersons at a function to inaugurate Malabar Agro Fete, organised by the Plantation Corporation of Kerala Ltd (PCKL) here, he said an official announcement in this connection would be made in Kasargod on December 3, the Anti-Pesticide Day.
He said the government would take stringent action against public sector units if they used toxic pesticides.
Though power to monitor usage of highly toxic pesticides and its after affects was vested with the Centre, compensation to its victims were being made by the states, he said.
The PCKL should consider initiating adequate measures for rehabilitation for endosulfan victims in the State, he added
