    Coimbatore: Five persons were died in a blast at an Army ordnance factory in Azhavangadu in Coonoor division of Nilgiri district, 12 km from Ooty, when an acid tank burst on Thursday evening .In the blast, which occurred around 3.20 pm Thursday, one of the units of Cordite Factory destroyed completely. . There were six workers in the unit when the tank unit exploded. The deceased were identified as Ravi, Jayaraj, Gopi, Anand and Balsurbamaniam and all of them belong to Tamil Nadu. One of the workers with severe injuries has been rushed to a nearby hospital. Among the dead, the body of only two were recovered so far.
    Many Malyalees are working here. A dozen injured people were immediately shifted to hospitals for medical attention. Rescue work is still on to ensure that all workers are evacuated from the factory. Cordite Factory manufactures nitrocellulose, nitroglycerine, propellants for small arms and ammunition for guns and artillery ammunition as well as propellants for engine starters for aircraft.
