Kollam:In shocking incident,a two-year- old baby girl found lying haplessly in a shed with ants swarming around it was saved and hospitalised by people at a village near here yesterday. The skinny child with rake-thin limbs and her mother were
found in a shed at Meeyannur at Pooyappally police stations limits when the villagers resecued it and taken to hospital.
The child, Remya, was living with her mother Suseela and step-father Rajan, who was said to be behind the cruetly
towards the tot. It was on hearing some unusual voices from the shed that people grew suspicious and peeped into it, where they saw the heart-rending sight of the child lying on the floor in a precarious condition. They then took away the child and the
mother to the hospital informed the police of the incident. On questioning, Suseela told police that she had no other way but obey her husbabnd as he threatened her with dire consequences if she refused to leave the child alone at homeand starve it while they went to work. The child has been entrusted to a charity home of the Child Welfare Council here and the mother to a destitute women's home. Rajan has been taken into custody by police and a case registered aginst him for cruelty towards children, police said.PTI
