Continuous Parliament disruption weakens democratic system: Congress

Thiruvananthapuram : Kerala Pradesh Congress President Ramesh Chennithala today said continuous stalling of Parliament will only lead to weakening of the democratic system in the country. In a statement here, he said continuous disruption of Parliament only showed lack of political will on the part of those who stalled the proceedings.

''Parliament is convened by spending crores of money for having discussions on issues related to the country and the people,'' he added.

Alleging that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Communist Party were stalling Parliament proceedings in the name of corruption, Mr Chennithala said ''everyone has seen the stand taken by these two parties in corruption cases involving their leaders.'' Kerala had seen the largest scam in the SNC Lavalin dealings, in which CPI(M) State Secretary Pinarayi Vijayan had been allegedly named and in Karnataka, Chief Minister and BJP leader B S Yeddyurappa was involved in land issues, he said.

Stating that the Congress party had always taken stern steps against corruption, he said the resignation of Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan and Union Telecom Minister A Raja were examples of the steps the Congress had taken against corruption.
