New Delhi: When the whole country is pitching for a ban on the hazardous pesticide endosulfan, the centre has organized an agricultural development seminar sponsored by none other than the pesticide manufacturing company. The three- day seminar organized by Central Agricultural Ministry and Central Ministry for Chemicals and pesticides, is being sponsored by Endosulfan producing companies.
President Prathibha Patil inaugurated the seminar on Friday which is based on the subject `Village development through agricultural development. Union agricultural minister Sharad Pawar presided. Apart from the three public sector companies, the programme is co sponsored by 30 private companies, which include the endosulfan producing companies like Excel Crop care and Coromandel International. Special talk on `Pesticides-truth and false and remedies' which would be lead by Dr Dhuri who is the company representative of Excel Crop care, would be held on Saturday. Another talk on agricultural education would be lead by scientist DC Mayi. DC Mayi is the person who gave a report favorable to endosulfan earlier after conducting a study on the pesticide in Kasargod .
