Kozhikode : Former People's Democratic Party General Secretary Gafoor Puthuppady today announced his decision to quit the party and form a separate outfit Janathipathya Samrakshana Vedi. Talking to newspersons here, Mr Puthuppady, removed from the General Secretaryship by party Chief Adbul Nazer Mahdani following a tiff with Working President Poonthura Siraj, said the decision was taken at a meeting of his followers held recently at Adimaly.

He said he was prompted to end his 17-year association with the party in protest against Mr Siraj's overtures with the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) ahead of the recently concluded civic polls in the state.

Mr Puthuppady said he also tendered his resiginations from various party fora, including Central Committee, State Secretariat and its Secretaraiat, apart from the primary membership.
