Kochi: The High Court on Tuesday dismissed the bail application of ex-IG K Lakshmana who was given life imprisonment in the Naxalite Varghese murder case. His plea to relax his punishment was also stayed by the court.

Lakshmanan told the court that as he is 70 years old and has health problems he may be given bail. But the court ruled that the bail plea for an accused implicated in a criminal case cannot be taken up purely on terms of health reasons. The court announced that the Lakshmana plea would be again heard in March next year. Forty years after the brutal killing of Naxal leader, A Varghese, CBI Special Court convicted former IG K Lakshmana in the case while acquitting former DGP P Vijayan.
