Thiruvananthapuram : Forty eight industrial units in Kerala have together saved 23.52 MU of electricity during the year 2009-10 through various energy conservation measures, State Electricity Minister A K Balan said today.
Announcing the Kerala State Energy Conservation award and commendation certificate-2010, the Minister said these units had also saved 1,34,247 tonnes of oil, 14.89 tonnes of LPG and 4,554 tonnes of coal.
He said the BSES Kerala Power Ltd, Udyogamandal, Kochi and MRF Ltd, Kottayam, won the best performance award among the large scale energy consumers.
He said the Cocunt Lagoon, Kumarakom, that introduced a series of steps like methene gas for cooking instead of LPG, solar boat, solar water heaters, LED lighting and coconut shell fired tandoor had won the commendation certificate in the medium energy consumer category.
He said the Kalady Rice Millers Consortium Pvt Ltd, Kalady, Ernakulam, won the best performance award for small scale energy consumers.
