Auxiliary Bishop elevated

Kochi : Auxiliary Bishop of the Varappuha Aarchdiocese Joseph Karikkassery has been elevated as the new Bishop of the Latin Diocese of Kottappuram. A communication from Pope Benedict XVI annointing Dr Karikkassery as the new Bishop of Kottappuram Diocese was read out by Archbishop Kallarakkat at a meeting of the archdiocesan secretariat members, vicars of the forance churches and others yesterday.

Dr Karikkasserry succeeds Francis Kallarakkal who now becomes the Archbishop of Varappuha following the death of Danieal Acharuparmbil last year.

The new bishop would be installed within two months. The date of the installation was expected to be announced soon.
