    VS says Govt endorsed decision on GM crops after study

    Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister V A Achuthanandan while detailing the cabinet decisions on Wednesday said that the state government has adopted a stand against GM crops after studying scientific reports and there is need for more studies on this. VS also said that small buyers would be able to buy shares in Kannur airport in private participation and big sharks would be prevented from acquiring all the shares.

    The cabinet also approved the recommendations by department promotional committee to give promotion to 11 IPS officers in the state cadre.

    Offices from 1986 batch, Nirmal Chandra Asthana, A Hemachandran, N Shanker Reddy , Rajesh Divan, V S Muhammad Yasin would be promoted as ADGP and officers from 93 batch S Gopinath, Yogesh Gotha, Jose George as IGs and officers from 1997 batch Balram Kumar Upadhyaya, G Lakshman, Mahipal Yadav and Vijay Sreekumar would be promoted as DIGs.

    Other decision:

    A new thoracic unit would be set up at the cath lab of Alappuzha Medical College. For this, 26 new appointments would be made.

    50 acres of land would be given to Food-and Public distribution department for constructing a Food Park in Aruvambalam

    25 acres of land would be given to agricultural department for agri farm in Panthalam

    26 new staff nurses to be appointed in Thiruvananthapuram Regional cancer centre
