    Kerala implements recommendations on minority welfare: Minister

    Kozhikode : The Kerala government has implemented all the recommendations suggested by Pai Committee in its report on weflare of minority communities in the state. Talking to newspersons after attending a review meeting of various minority organisations, Local Self-governance Minister Pai Mohammed Kutty and Industry Minister Elamaram Kareem said the meeting hailed the government for its efforts to improve their lot as per the recommendations of the committee set up on the suggestion of Sachar Committee report on minorities in the country.

    He said the government would improve the Madrasa Teachers Pension Scheme, announced as per the recommendations.

    Urgent steps would also be taken for the improvement of Arabic language as suggested at the review meeting, he said.

    Stating that the government had an open mind as far as welfare of the minorities was concerned, he said further action would also be taken for implementing the rest of the recommendations in the Pai Committee report.

    Some of the 15 recommendations by the Committee were formation of a minority department and minority cell in the state Secretariat, pension and welfare fund for Madrasa teachers, minority package for Kannur, Kozhikode, Malappuram, Palakkad, Ernakulam, Kollam and Alappuzha districts as well, scholarships for Muslim girl students, accord priority to their education related issues and urgent steps to make Aligarh Muslim University off-campus at Malappuram a reality, among others.

    Mr P M A Salaam, MLA, Mr K T Jaleel, MLA, Mr T K Hamza, ex-MP Kerala Waqf Board Chairman K V Abdul Khadar were among 57 representatives attended.
