Kozhikode : The Indian National League (INL) in Kerala today removed its General Secretary P M A Salaam, MLA, from the post for 'denigrating the party and its state unit President.' Talking to newspersons here, State unit President S A Puthiyavalappil said the decision was taken by national President Prof Mohammed Sulaiman.
He said Mr Salaam, in a interview to a private channel, had said the party in its state council meeting would discuss its proposed merger (purportedly with Indian Union Muslim League (IUML)) whereas there was no such move in the agenda of the party.
The stand taken by Mr Salaam was amounted to denigrating it when the party had clearly stated that those advocating merger could leave the organisation, he said.
The party national executive scheduled to meet on January 22 and 23 would take further decision on the issue, he added
