Division likely in INL with Salam's removal

Kozhikode: With the removal of Indian National League (INL) General Secretary P M A Salaam, MLA, a split is likely to happen in the Indian National League in Kerala. Those who support Salam had come out with a demand to oust State unit President S A Puthiyavalappil from the post. PMA Salam said that he would call for a state council meet without the permission of state president. Meanwhile, INL national leaders are divided on this issue. Siraj Ibrahim Seth, INL national general secretary and son of INL founder Ibrahim Suleiman Seth and PMA Salam are in one section and national secretary Ahmed Devar Kovil and state president are opposing them. Siraj Seth said that if any one has personal grudge against Salam that should not be leveled by such acts. He termed the action illegal. In the National council meet on January 22, the Salam group might demand action against state president.

INL removed its General Secretary P M A Salaam, MLA, from the post for 'denigrating the party and its state unit President.' State unit President S A Puthiyavalappil said the decision was taken by national President Prof Mohammed Suleiman.

He said Salaam, in a interview to a private channel, had said the party in its state council meeting would discuss its proposed merger (purportedly with Indian Union Muslim League (IUML)) whereas there was no such move in the agenda of the party.

The stand taken by Salam was amounted to denigrating it when the party had clearly stated that those advocating merger could leave the organisation, he said.

The party national executive scheduled to meet on January 22 and 23 would take further decision on the issue, he added
