    All efforts to help Air India regain lost glory: Vayalar Ravi

    Kochi : Union Minister of Overseas Indian Affairs with Additional charge of Civil Aviation today said that he would take all efforts to regain the lost glory of Air India (AI) to regain its and make the lost glory national carrier a prestigious one. Talking to reporters for the first time after getting Civil Aviation Portfolio, he said it was a great challenge for him to set AI, which was facing serious problems, in order and make the company a profitable PSU.

    Admitting the national carrier was in a very bad shape both in finance and maintaining schedules, he said he would opt for short term and long term strategies to take the national carrier to a prestigious level.

    His priority would be to ensure punctuality and reducing the frequency of cancellation of the flights.

    He said it could be achieved with the cooperation of its crew, staff and other officials.

    Expressing happines over getting additional charge of Civil Aviation, he said he was very much grateful to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress Chairperson Sonia Gandhi for entrusting him with such a huge responsibility.

    Mr Ravi said ''they had faith and confidence in me and I will prove that their decision is right.''
