Human chain to make Kozhikode plastic free on January 26

Kozhikode : Lawmakers, including union and state Ministers, eminent sports personalities, students, green activists and labourers will participate in a human chain to be formed as part of a Mass Action for Plastic waste free Kozhikode (MAP-Kozhikode) here on January 26. Talking to newspersons here today, Kozhikode District Collector Dr P B Salim said some of the dignatories confirmed participation in the mass action were Union Minister of State for External Affairs E Ahamed, State Ministers Pai Mohammed Kutty, Elamaram Kareem, Kadannappalli Rmachandran, Surendran Pillai, Mayor A K Premajam, M K Raghavan, MP, MLAs M K Prem Nath, A Pradeep Kumar, P M A Salaam, P T A Rahim, U C Raman, A K Saseendran, Mamunni Haji and former sprint queen P T Usha, among others.

Altogether, about three lakh people are expected to join hands in the chain on 82 km stretch from Puzhithala to Vaidyarangadi on the National Highway at 1030 hrs, he said, adding prior to that a rehersal of the programme would be held at 1000 hrs.

The participant would also take a pledge, to be administered by well known writer and film personality M T Vasudevan Nair, to make the district plastic free, he added.
