Lottery: VS for legal battle against Centre

Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan is taking a adamant stand on lottery issue. The CM is all set to file an appeal in the Kerala High Court within a week against the central government alleging that the centre is extending support by violating rules. The Supreme Court senior advocate Nitheesh Gupta would represent the state government. As per Section 6 of the Central Lottery Regulation Act, it is the centre which should ban other state lotteries if they are found violating rules. So far the state government had filed 11 petitions pointing out that Sikkim, Bhutan lotteries, which were sold in Kerala, had been violating central and state lottery rules.

As the centre had not taken any action, the state is filing a petition in the HC. Violating a central rule is a criminal offense. Earlier, the SC promulgated an order to file an FIR if such violations are found and not to make any arrest. The state government is also planning to file appeal against the verdict.

CM also sought the service of senior advocates in the Supreme court KK Venugopal, PP Rao or Santhibhushan to deal with the case.
