Kannur : Kerala Minister for Ports V Surendran Pillai today said the first vessel would reach Azhikkal port in this district in March.
The infrastructural works in the port would be completed before February 20, he told reporters here after attending a review meeting of the Azhikkal Port Development committee. Dredging would commence on January 28 and it would be completed before February 20. The construction of wharf will be done by the Harbour Engineering Department and finished next month.
The Minister also gave the direction to the Director of Ports, Jacob Thomas, to continue the talks with Lakshdweep Administration to launch vessels from Azhikkal Port.
He said the State Government would submit a project report before the Union Government to convert Azhikkal Port into a major port.
Mr Surendran Pillai pointed the government had given priority to waterway by using maritime advantage of 590 KM seashore
