Kochi : As many as 98 boxes containing hydrochloric acid were loaded on to a Doha-bound Qatar Airlines flight here, after the exporter wrongly declared it as 'not dangerous', but was offloaded before the take-off.
One of the boxes containing the acid fell down and smoke was seen emanating when the security personnel were
alerted. Later, all the boxes were offloaded from the aircraft, airport sources said today.
The flight later left at its scheduled time with 156 passengers and nine crew members.
Airport Director A K C Nair said airport authorities have filed a case against the Thrissur-based Infra Scientific
Agency and the Air Transport Association (IATA) agent through whom the consignment was sent.
Airport and Police have begun investigation into how the consignment was permitted into the aircraft.
Nair said the exporter wrongly declared that the consignment containing 100 boxes were medical equipment and
were 'not dangerous'.
The airport authorities have also decided not to accept any consignments from the exporter and the IATA agent
following the incident. PTI
