Kozhikode: With a view to further improving the efficiency of policing in Kozhikode city, a 'Police Call Centre', claimed to be the first such in the country, has been launched.
This facility, launched here on an experimental basis from August 15 last year, is expected to make filing petitions easy
and hassle-free, P Vijayan, Kozhikode City Police Commissioner, said.
The toll-free number to the Centre will be 8129000000 and would enable petitioners get an appointment with
Sub-Inspectors, Circle Inspectors, Assistant Commissioner and Commissioner.
People could dial the toll free number which will be available 24x7, he said.
The number could also be used to file complaints, check complaint status, inform about traffic blocks and avail other
important information related to police and security issues.
This would reduce the physical as well as financial difficulties experienced by people who come to the police
station for registering complaints, he said.
Bharti Airtel, a leading global telecommunications company, is co-sponsoring the project along with the Police
department,he said.
On the rise in number of juvenile cases, the Commissioner
said parents had the responsibility to check the activities of
children. Some 60 children were arrested for theft and chain
snatching cases in city and surrounding areas last year,
Vijayan said.
Electronic surveillance in the city will be strengthened by
installing 16 more cameras in addition to the existing four,
he said.
The recently launched 'Student Police Cadets' force in
schools, has attracted national attention,he claimed, adding,
the main objective was to inculcate in the students social
responsibility and discipline. PTI
