Corruption can't be proved merely by words: Justice Kurup

Kochi: Justice K Narayanakurup, against whom former additional director of prosecutions K C Peter alleged accepting bribe in the ice cream parlour case, stated that corruption can't be proved merely by words. If it can, then anyone can harass anybody. He was replying to the allegation by Peter and said that he would face all challenges. . ``KC Peter made the allegations in Indiavision channel. He was looking drunk. His words were not clear. The same was shot in a sting camera operation,'' Kurup said. He asked where is the evidence that he accepted bribe from Kunhalikuttty to save him from the case. Within hours KC Peter changed his statement to another channel. With this the credibility of Indiavision has been affected, Kurup said.

If they allege corruption, they must bring evidence first. He lashed out at the media saying it is immoral to make allegations on the basis of a drunken person's statement. Nowadays the press is rotting. The society had to pay the price for activities of mediapersons entering the field without any maturity and commonsense.

On Sunday, the case took a fresh turn with local TV channel Indiavision releasing video grabs which claimed that two judges of the Kerala high court were bribed.

In the sting video, former additional director of prosecutions K C Peter claimed he had helped Rauf bribe Justice K Narayana Kurup and Justice K Thankappan (both retired now) to get a favourable verdict for Kunhalikutty.

Meanwhile, Justice K Thankappan said that it is not the duty of media to tarnish the image of the judiciary by making fake allegations. Justice K Thankappan upheld the ruling of the Kozhikode lower court which acquitted all the accused in the ice cream case.

'There was no evidence against the accused. The SC also rejected an appeal by the state government against my verdict,' he said . He said all the current incidents have been hatched for a political conspiracy. If there is corruption, mediapersons should find it. He said there is no crediblity for Peter's words as he denied his statement in another channel.
