Foreign liquor shop gutted, manager-in-charge found hanging

Kochi: The manager-in-charge of Kerala State Beverages Corporation retail outlet at Kurisupally Road, Ravipuram, was found hanging in a hotel in the city, after fire broke out twice at the liquor shop on Sunday night. The deceased was V.K. Sajeevan, 54, from Alappad Cross Road. He was summoned to the spot when the fire broke out first. The first incident of fire was reported at around 11.45 p.m. As per the information given by the security employees of nearby shops, the Fire Force immediately put out the fire. The second incident of fire happened at around 5 am. The documents kept inside the shop were gutted. Sajeevan who reached the spot after the first incident, was missing later. He later checked into a hotel near South Railway station at around 2.45 a.m. Hotel staff became suspicious when he failed to respond and alerted the police. On breaking open the door, he was found hanging.

The accounts indicate a loss of liquor worth Rs 4 lakh. The money, Rs 5 lakh, kept in the shop was safe and police deposited the same in the bank the next day. Vanaja is his wife and children Sanjay and Divya.
