Even as Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee handed over a Rs. 2 lakh cheque to Rinku Das, the Barasat girl whose teenage brother was killed by three goons while he was trying to protect his sister, the girl's mother Ms. Gayatri, made an impassioned plea for getting a government job.
Ms. Rinku, who was accompanied to the Secretariat by her parents Gayatri and Tapan Das, spent nearly an hour with the Chief Minister who had rushed to their home in North 24 Parganas district soon after the incident which occurred around midnight of February 14 when Ms. Rinku was being escorted back to their residence by her brother.
One of the three men suspected to have been involved in the incident, is now behind bars.
The local MLA Bithika Mondal and Deputy Magistrate Anupama Kanjilal also came with the family to meet the Chief Minister. Ms. Rinku made a fervent appeal to Mr. Bhattacharjee to get the other two arrested.
Group-D job
Officials at the Chief Minister's Office said efforts were on to get a Group-D job for Ms. Gayatri in the Panchayat Office or District Magistrate's office and the proposal may be moved at the Cabinet meeting on Tuesday.
