LDF Goverment introduces Plachimada Bill in Kerala Assembly

Thiruvananthapuram : The Left Democratic Front (LDF) government today introduced a landmark legislation in the State Assembly seeking to constitute a Special Tribunal to realise compensation from the Hindustan Coca Cola Beverages Private Limited for the losses its plant at Plachimada had caused to the people of the region. The Plachimada Coca Cola Victims Relief and Compensation Claims Special Tribunal Bill, 2011, introduced by Water Resources Minister N K Premachandran, was referred to the subject committee.

The government had taken the decision to introduce the bill based on the recommendations of a High Power Committee, which conducted a study of the problems in the area.

The Bill proposes a tribunal consisting of three members under a chairperson.
