Regional parties in the northeast have formed a new front. Announcing the formation of the North East Democratic Front (NEDF) on Sunday, senior politician and Mizo National Front president Zoram Thanga said national parties had failed to address the grievances of the people of this border region. The northeast lagged behind other States in development.
Now leaders of the regional parties joined hands to make their presence felt in national politics, Mr. Thanga told a news conference here on Wednesday, at which the former Lok Sabha Speaker, P.A. Sangma, was present.
The NEDF would field candidates in the coming Assembly elections in Assam.
