Teacher student ratio to be made 1:30 to protect teachers

Thiruvananthapruam: When a situation where a threat to teachers losing jobs arises, the teacher student ratio would be made 1:30. As the cabinet had already taken a decision on this, the government would soon issue an order even before the declaration of elections. Though at present the teacher student ratio stands at 1:45, orders are being issued every year to make it 1:40 when there is threat to teachers' jobs. But still the number of teachers losing jobs are on the rise and there were demands to alter the student teacher ratio to protect the teachers. Protection for teachers is being given to those who are in service till 1997. The government planned to raise the protection to 1999 or 2005 at various occasions. But a final decision is still pending.

The government has also received a recommendation to make age 6 as the admission age for class one. As per Central Right to Education Act, if the admission is given at the age of 6, there won't be any students in class one. An alternate to this is to implement pre-schools.
