CBI books former IG of Western Railway

The Anti-Corruption Bureau of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a case against Lalit Kumar Sinha, former Inspector General-cum-Chief Security Commissioner, Western Railway, Mumbai, for possessing assets disproportionate to the known sources of his income.

The agency has sealed two of his bank lockers in Patna, Bihar, and frozen five of his and his family members' bank accounts. In a press release on Wednesday, the agency said a case had been registered under Section 13(1)(e) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. “We conducted raids on his residences in Patna, Delhi and Mumbai on Tuesday,” a senior CBI official told The Hindu. “The searches have revealed that the accused and his family members have property at Noida; Mayur Vihar, New Delhi; Danapur, Patna; Kankad Baug, Patna; and Mira Road, Mumbai,” the release stated.

Though the exact worth of the assets is not yet known, the agency found 62 necklaces and other gold ornaments in just two of the seized lockers.
