Custody for Nalco accused extended by 5 more days

The CBI custody of suspended chairman and managing director of the National Aluminium Company Limited (Nalco), Abhay Kumar Srivastava, and his associate B.L. Bajaj, was extended by five more days by a court here on Thursday.

The accused are being questioned over allegations of having accepted bribes from suppliers/bidders in Nalco projects.

The investigating agency told Special Judge (CBI) O.P. Saini that Mr. Srivastava and Mr. Bajaj were required so that they could be confronted with each other, other accused persons and documents recovered.

The two were required to be confronted with the transcripts of recorded phone conversations, which the agency said were in “code language.” Counsel for the two did not oppose the CBI remand. Mr. Srivastava told the court that he was cooperating with the CBI and would continue to do so.
