Selam: Five persons, including three students from Kerala, died when a lorry ploughed through a group of passengers waiting to board a bus at Seerakappadi near Selam on Wednesday night. A Malayalee student was also injured in the accident. The incident occurred around 10.30 pm. The deceased are Mathew John, 20, Akhil Gopal, 20 , Unnikrishnan, 20. All three were second year civil engineering students at a private polytechnic college in Seerakappadi. The others were Lakshmi, 38 and her daughter Kumudini, 11, who were the deceased.Mathew Johan is the son of late Kochu Vareethu John and Jancy from Perumanoor, Kochi, Akhil is the son of Gopalakrishnan of Chettikkulanagara and Unnikrishanan is the son of Jayakumar from Koduman. Around 10.30 pm a Salem-bound lorry, loaded with grain husk from Sankagiri, tried to overtake a bus. At this juncture, the driver of the lorry lost control and ploughed through the public waiting at the Kombapadipatti bus stand.
