Thiruvananthapuram: The Election Commission (EC) today said a decision on Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee's announcement of sops like free travel for girls doing vocational training will be taken up once the inquiry report was submitted.Talking to reporters here, Chief Election Commissioner S Y Quraishi said reports had been sought from Railway Board and the Rajya Sabha Secretariat regarding Ms Banerjee's announcement.
'We have ordered an inquiry on the Railway Minister's announcement based on media reports that the announcement was made when the poll code was in force,' he said and added a decision would be taken at the earliest.
'CPI(M) Leader Sitaram Yechury had also demanded a clarification on the issue,' Mr Quraishi said.
