Hyderabad: Kings XI Punjab captain Adam Gilchrist is a fan of Paul Valthaty's 'calmness' and is confident that his opening partner will be able to maintain his sublime form in the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL).Valthaty became an overnight hero with a blazing 120 not out against the Chennai Super Kings in Mohali Wednesday and followed it up with a brisk 75 against the Deccan Chargers Saturday and also took four wickets.
Gilchrist rated Valthaty's last two innings as one of the great ones in Twenty20 and said he looks set to maintain his form despite thr other team taking note of his playing style.
'There is a long tournament to go and other teams are watching him in interest and probably planning already against him. But for the moment, things are going on very well for him because he has handled it with calmness,' said Gilchrist.
'The last two knocks Paul has played can go on par with most great innings in T20 cricket and that has been obviously pleasing for us and extremely pleasing for him.'
Gilchrist is particularly impressed with the way Valthaty has handled the attention coming his way during the week.
'He worked hard in our camp in the pre-tournament practice matches. The most important feature of Paul has been his calmness and his ability to handle the interest that is suddenly coming to his way,' said the former Australian wicket-keeper.
